Acapulco FootGolf World Championship underway across men’s, ladies and seniors divisions

FIFG used an August 2 official album to put Acapulco’s fifth FootGolf World Championship back in front of its global audience, after the event ran from May 27 to June 7 across men’s, ladies’ and seniors divisions. The federation’s championship pages in Guerrero, Mexico, showed live leaderboards, team phases and individual brackets as the week moved from opening rounds to medal play.

The men’s individual race was tight at the top. FIFG’s leaderboard listed F. Warsemann and G. Novosad tied at 29 under, with J. Kozak and B. Clarke two shots back at 26 under. That spread said plenty about the level of the field in Acapulco: the title fight was compressed enough that one clean stretch on the course could change the shape of the podium, and the leaderboard stayed active through four rounds.

The senior men’s competition was just as competitive. C. Fernandez and A. Liadal were both listed at 30 under, with M. Ghezzi on 27 under, while USA FootGolf’s Acapulco roster page showed David Andler, Darrin Karuzas and Michael Gora among the senior men plus entrants who accepted the invitation to play. FIFG’s June 7 broadcast focused on the senior men’s category in a final between Argentina and Norway, and the transcript noted that heavy rain had fallen since very early that morning, changing conditions for the closing matches.

The ladies’ division was part of the same multi-layered championship stage. FIFG’s June 4 broadcast showed Japan versus Uruguay in women’s team play, and the federation’s June 1 coverage moved between the women’s competition and the men’s competition at the Trade Vidas course. That mix of brackets, from women’s team play to senior men’s national teams, gave Acapulco the shape of a full world championship rather than a single-title event.

FIFG’s June 6 broadcast covered the national team round of 16 and quarterfinals, with the June 7 stream closing out the national team finals. The federation had already set the event in motion long before the first tee shot, announcing on May 30, 2025, that Mexico would host the 2026 World Cup in Acapulco and then unveiling the official event website on Nov. 23, 2025. By the time the August 2 album was posted, Acapulco had already delivered the sport’s fifth world championship as a true international showcase.
