AFOSI civilians help Air Force women win inaugural Armed Forces title

Bob Black, a force development manager at Air Force Office of Special Investigations headquarters, coached the Department of the Air Force women to a 13-8 victory over Army and the inaugural Armed Forces flag football title at Cougar Stadium on Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

The win gave the Air Force women the first championship in the event’s history and put civilian coaching directly in the middle of the result. AFOSI identified Black in a social media post tied to the title, underscoring how the program’s support staff helped shape the team’s run through the tournament.

Armed Forces Sports placed the championship on July 25, 2026, at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and described the 2026 Armed Forces Flag Football Championship as a double round robin followed by championship and consolation games. That format meant the Air Force women had to handle multiple games and adjust quickly before reaching the title game against Army.

The 13-8 final showed how tight the margin was. In a sport built on short possessions, spacing and rapid decision-making, a one-score game leaves little room for wasted snaps. The Air Force women finished it with just enough separation to claim the title and add the branch’s first Armed Forces Sports flag football crown.

The championship also fit a broader sweep for the service. Armed Forces Sports coverage said Air Force men and women captured the first Armed Forces Sports flag football championships, turning the event into a dual title run for the branch. That gave the women’s win extra weight inside a first-year competition, where early champions often become the standard everyone else has to chase.
