Anne Arundel basketball programs earn NJCAA All-Academic recognition

Anne Arundel Community College Athletics earned NJCAA All-Academic recognition for the 2025-26 academic year, a department-wide marker that says its basketball programs are doing more than surviving the grind of junior-college schedules. Multiple student-athletes and teams were acknowledged, and that kind of recognition points to a standard at Anne Arundel County, Maryland, where classroom performance is part of the program identity rather than an afterthought.

The college’s athletics page carried the title AACC Student-Athletes, Teams Named NJCAA All-Academic, underscoring that the honor stretched beyond one roster or one sport. In NJCAA basketball, that matters because eligibility, development and transfer plans all hinge on academic standing. When a department can put multiple names and teams on an academic honor roll, it gives coaches a concrete recruiting message: players are expected to compete and keep up in class.

The scale of the NJCAA awards frame makes the achievement more meaningful. The association’s Academic Student-Athlete Awards program recognizes student-athletes for academic achievement, and NJCAA said 12,245 student-athletes made its 2023-24 All-Academic Teams after posting GPAs above 3.60. That followed 10,267 honorees in 2022-23 and 9,912 in 2021-22, showing how crowded and competitive the academic field has become across junior-college sports.

NJCAA also reported that 1,446 teams earned Academic Teams of the Year honors for 2025-26 with a GPA of 3.00 or higher, including two teams that finished with a perfect 4.00. Against that backdrop, Anne Arundel’s recognition fits into a wider national standard, one that rewards programs able to sustain success in the classroom while managing the demands of a season.

Basketball remains central to that conversation at AACC. The men’s basketball statistics page for 2025-26 lists 20 games played, 69.3 points per game, 39.6 percent shooting from the field, 28.9 percent from three-point range, 69.0 percent at the free-throw line, 32.6 rebounds per game and 12.8 assists per game. On the women’s side, the awards page includes NJCAA Superior Academic Achievement tied to a 3.86 GPA, another sign that the academic standard reaches across the department.

For a junior-college program, that combination is the point. Anne Arundel is showing that the path to competitive basketball can run through the classroom first, and that message carries real weight with recruits deciding where they can stay eligible, improve and move on.
