Ashbury Golf Resort’s 500 acres of rolling Devon countryside will host the English Open 2025 from 21st to 24th August, and the FootGolf Association of England has already made the venue the headline. The update named Zak Matteoli in the mix and pointed straight at Ashbury as the kind of place that separates a strong pairs partnership from a merely competent one.

That is not marketing fluff. Manor & Ashbury Resorts says the property sits in Fowley Cross, Okehampton, Devon, and lists FootGolf as available every day from 7:30am to 6:00pm. The same venue describes itself as a huge multi-course operation, with one result calling it the world’s 9th largest golf resort with 103 holes of golf. For FootGolf, Ashbury is more than a stop on the calendar, it is a scale test.

The numbers around the event only sharpen the edge. The Association’s English Open pages point to two bespoke FootGolf courses, one official training day, three days of competition and a 54-hole individual championship, with an optional pairs event also listed. That format puts a premium on chemistry, because a pair cannot simply rely on one player to carry a hot stretch. Over three days, the better partnership is usually the one that knows when to take the conservative line, when to press, and when to absorb a mistake without letting it leak into the next tee shot.

Ashbury’s own setup helps explain why the venue matters so much. The resort says it offers 27 holes on full days and 18 holes on arrival and departure, a reminder that this is a place built for volume and repeat looks rather than one-off novelty. It also says it has achieved the SafeGolf standard awarded by England Golf, another sign that the environment is set up for championship-level competition rather than a casual exhibition.

The Association’s decision to keep Ashbury at the center of its major events calendar underlines the point. Another public post says the English FootGolf Open will return to Ashbury Golf Resort in 2026, with the event set for 21st to 23rd August 2026, and calls the resort the proud home of the 2025 FIFG Masters. That repeat booking says enough on its own: Ashbury is being treated as a venue where titles are earned, not handed over.
