Atlantic League unveils 2025 schedule, 126-game season with split halves

The Atlantic League built its 2025 schedule to create urgency twice, not once: a 126-game Championship Season stretched across 21 weeks, with the calendar reaching its 63-game midpoint on Sunday, July 6. The second half opened on Tuesday, July 8 and ran through Thursday, September 18, with Mondays set aside as off days and every club facing the other nine teams both at home and on the road.

That structure turned the summer into two separate races. North Division clubs were the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars, Lancaster Stormers, Long Island Ducks, Staten Island FerryHawks and York Revolution, while the South Division grouped the Charleston Dirty Birds, Gastonia Baseball Club, High Point Rockers, Lexington Legends and Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. The season opened on Friday, April 25 with five games, including York at Gastonia and Charleston at Lexington, a first night that immediately put defending teams and division rivals into the same frame.

The league’s scheduling logic is not an accident of minor league travel. The Atlantic League said the Johns Hopkins University Baseball Scheduling Group built the slate, underscoring how carefully the circuit manages rivalries, road miles and competitive balance. Every club gets a shot at every opponent in both parks, which means a hot stretch in one market can ripple across the standings fast, and a bad April does not have to decide a September.

That design has defined the league since Frank Boulton founded it in 1995 and launched play in 1998 with six Northeast teams and a 100-game schedule. The Atlantic League has since grown into a 10-team circuit stretching from New York to North Carolina, and it became Major League Baseball’s first Professional Partner League in 2020. The league says more than 1,450 players have moved on to MLB organizations, and it says nearly 50 million fans have attended Championship Seasons.

The split-season format gives those numbers a sharper edge on the field. First-half and second-half division winners advance to the North and South Division Championship Series, and those winners move on to the Atlantic League Championship Series. In September 2025, Lancaster and Gastonia captured the second-half titles, while High Point and York had already taken the first-half crowns and finished tied for the best overall record at 74-52. Long Island’s long attendance history, including 707 sellouts and 17 league attendance crowns, shows how much the league’s calendar can matter in the stands as well as the standings.

In May 2026, the league renamed its championship trophy the Frank Boulton Trophy, a fitting nod to the founder whose original idea was built into the schedule itself: keep more clubs alive longer, and make every market feel the race before summer runs out.
