AWA Wiffle Ball standings tighten as Nighthawks, Pilots battle for position

AWA Wiffle Ball’s August 4 standings update put the Northern Nighthawks fifth at 13-11 and the Pilots sixth at 10-14, a three-game gap that leaves both clubs squarely in the pressure zone. In a short-format league where one bad inning can flip a night, that margin is real but not safe.

The league’s late slate only sharpens that tension. AWA’s Watch page says it streams “Every pitch of every game, live on YouTube,” and its complete archive goes back to 2024, which means every late push and stumble is being tracked in full. The 2026 schedule page listed Nighthawks vs. Pilots for August 3 at 5:45 PM and Cyclones vs. Mojo for August 4 at 5:45 PM, right in the middle of a Monday-Wednesday 5:45 run that started April 7, according to the league’s May 20 YouTube description.

That direct Nighthawks-Pilots pairing matters more than a normal standings line. AWA’s archive already includes Nighthawks-Pilots postseason meetings in the 2024 CLDS, so this is not a random mid-pack collision. These two clubs have already crossed paths in meaningful games, and the league’s own stats portal, branded a “Full Data Portal” for advanced metrics, gives every result a sharper edge because the numbers are meant to be digested immediately, not filed away.

The Northern Nighthawks bring the stronger position into the stretch. AWA’s team page identifies them as a National League club established in 2020 and calls them “Masters of the night game,” a fitting label for a team that is trying to hold ground while the table tightens around it. The Pilots, meanwhile, are still in reach, but at 10-14 they have less margin for a cold week and more need for a fast surge if they want to overtake anyone ahead of them.

That is the separator now: the Nighthawks have the better record, the Pilots have the harder climb, and the schedule is handing them few soft landings. With the standings still packed and the head-to-head history already in place, every remaining game is starting to look less like a regular-season date and more like a test that can decide who gets the last serious chance.
