The NFL boasts some of the most physically gifted athletes on the planet. But it also has many overrated stars whose productivity doesn’t match their vaunted reputations. Today we’re going to look at these overrated players who have big names but aren’t quite living up to them. We’ll avoid talking about busts with a couple of exceptions.
Some of these players are still riding on their former glories. Others played for strong teams that masked their inadequacies. Meanwhile, some did amazing things in the regular season but couldn’t put it together in the playoffs. Check out the list below.
DeAndre Hopkins
It may seem crazy to say that a five-time Pro Bowler is an overrated player but that’s unfortunately true right now. Hopkins was fantastic during his time in Houston and early days in Arizona but since then it’s been a different story. Everybody thought that the Cardinals pulled off a coup when they traded for the wideout. It was one of the weirdest deals ever because they had to give the Texans almost nothing in return.
But there were no winners in this situation because the Cardinals didn’t deliver. Kyler Murray’s inconsistency didn’t help Hopkins flourish in Phoenix. Some NFL scouts think that he lost his speed while others believe that he brings too much drama. But he devolved from blue-chip superstar to overrated veteran in a few short years (via Sports Illustrated).
