Birmingham Legion FC home matches moved in September schedule change

Birmingham Legion FC’s September home slate changed when the USL Championship and the club moved two regular-season matches at Protective Stadium, including the home date with Charleston Battery from Sunday, Sept. 13 to Sunday, Sept. 20. The league and club announced the adjustment on Aug. 6, giving Legion supporters a revised calendar before the final stretch of the 2026 season.

The other home game in the same window, against New Mexico United, was also shifted from its original mid-September date to later in the month. That leaves Birmingham with a reshaped September run at home in Birmingham, Alabama, and it means season-ticket holders, traveling fans and local matchday operations all had to reset their plans around two changed fixtures instead of one.

For Legion, the competitive impact is more than administrative. Moving the Charleston match back a week alters the club’s rest cycle and the order of its late-season home and road rhythm, which can matter in a Championship table that tends to tighten in September. A one-week delay can also change how a coaching staff manages recovery, training loads and lineup rotation as the playoff race becomes more unforgiving.

The Charleston fixture carries a little extra context, too. Charleston Battery beat Birmingham 3-2 on March 21, 2026, in the clubs’ earlier meeting this season, so the rematch now arrives with added weight as both teams chase results in the same campaign. The move to Sept. 20 also keeps the Battery trip tied to a decisive part of the calendar rather than the original mid-September slot.

Protective Stadium remains the venue for both home dates, and the revised schedule keeps the focus on Birmingham’s late-season home advantage. In a league where home results often swing postseason positioning, even a modest schedule tweak can shape how a club attacks the final weeks. For Legion, the practical challenge is clear: make the new dates count, keep the home crowd engaged, and avoid letting the altered September rhythm disrupt the push for points.
