Bluffdale pairs wiffle ball tournament with America250 family celebration

Food trucks at 5 p.m. and organized events at 5:30 turned Bluffdale’s June 30 America250 night at Day Ranch Park into an evening built to keep families in the park, not just around a wiffle ball field. The city paired a Wiffle Ball Tournament with a pie-eating contest and a dusk screening of National Treasure, using the game as the anchor for a full night of food, play and an outdoor movie.

That design mattered. Bluffdale’s page did not sell the tournament as a stand-alone stop; it urged residents to come compete, cheer and celebrate 250 years of American history, folding the wiffle ball bracket into a broader night of patriotic family fare. The format matched the city’s Food Truck Tuesday setup, which has been running for a third year at Day Ranch Park from late May through September, and it gave the baseball-style game a wider audience than the players in the tournament itself.

Day Ranch Park was listed on one city page at 15345 Puma Mountain Way, while the movie listing identified the park at 1156 W Rochelle Day Dr. However it was addressed, the message was the same: Bluffdale wanted the park to function as a gathering place, with the tournament, the pie-eating contest and National Treasure all pulling people to the same spot.

The June 30 celebration also tied into Bluffdale’s America250 Family Bingo Card, which runs from December 1, 2025 through December 31, 2026. Families that complete the card and bring it to City Hall can claim a challenge coin, one per family, after checking off items such as a service project for veterans, 250 acts of kindness, a Veterans Day program, America’s Potluck on July 5, a Bluffdale America250 event and learning about an ancestor who emigrated to America.

Bluffdale’s semiquincentennial calendar stretches well beyond one summer night. The city has already scheduled a Constitution Bowl on February 23 at Bluffdale City Hall, a Patriot Camp from June 15-19 at Bluffdale City Main Park and Bluffdale Celebrates America 250 at the Rodeo from July 16-19. At the state level, Utah’s America250 effort is framing the anniversary around hundreds of events across more than 250 municipalities, counties and Tribal nations, while the national America250 program is promoting America Gives and America’s Potluck, the communal meal set for July 5. In Bluffdale, the wiffle ball tournament was the easy entry point, but the real play was getting the whole town to stay for the rest of the night.
