Boston Dodgeball League sets August open play ahead of Aug. 21 season kickoff

Boston Dodgeball League has August open-play sessions lined up before its season starts Aug. 21 at 3 p.m., and the league said its schedule will be set by the end of next week. For players trying to get back on the court, the timing is the point: open gyms on Sundays in Somerville require no advanced registration, and the league says no experience is necessary.

An Aug. 3 Instagram post added more of the map, pointing players toward open-play sessions at CRLS War Memorial Recreation Center, Moston and West Somerville Neighborhood School. That gives Boston-area players several places to get reps in before the first official week, whether the goal is sharpening timing, finding a roster spot or just seeing how the pace compares with league play.

The league also kept competition on the calendar. In a Facebook post, Boston Dodgeball League said it would host a local competitive tournament in Boston on Saturday, Aug. 8, with registration opening that night at 6 p.m. The same update referenced the league’s past two Teams of the Week, which is a small but telling signal that summer play has been more than casual drop-in action.
