Bowling Green plans under-the-lights wiffle ball night with derby and prizes
Bowling Green is turning wiffle ball into a night event at Eli Joyce Field, where the city has lined up a round-robin tournament for Friday, July 17, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The setup is built to feel bigger than a typical rec game: lights on, food available, prizes on hand and a home run derby folded into the action.
Wiffle Ball Under the Lights will put teams of four to five players into three age divisions, with entries open to all-boys teams, all-girls teams or co-ed teams. The age range runs from 8 to 16, and the cost is $10 per person. Registration is handled through Rec Trac, giving Bowling Green Parks & Recreation a familiar sign-up path for families already using the city’s youth sports system.
The event page describes the tournament as fun and competitive, and the round-robin format should guarantee more than one game for each team. That matters in a sport like wiffle ball, where the draw is not just the score line but the rhythm of repeated at-bats, quick defensive chances and the chance to stay in the mix long enough to build momentum. The added challenges and derby give the night a second layer, making the field feel more like a showcase than a simple league stop.
Eli Joyce Field sits inside City Park at 520 Conneaut Avenue, and the park’s own description shows why the city keeps leaning on it for summer programming. Bowling Green calls City Park a traditional family park that comes alive in spring and summer with day camps, swim lessons, Concerts in the Park and Lunches in the Park, alongside other special events. The 2026 Summer Youth Program Guide says resident registration began April 20 and nonresident registration opened May 4, underscoring how early the city puts its summer slate in motion.
Wiffle Ball Under the Lights lands in a July calendar that already includes Lunch in the Park, Concerts in the Park and the 65th Annual Pet Show, placing the tournament among a packed stretch of city-run events. Eli Joyce Field itself is listed as a reservable facility with rates of $40 per hour without field prep and $60 per hour with prep, a reminder that the city is using a public park asset to stage one more summer night built around play, prizes and the glow of the lights.
