Brockport’s Megan Gerber earns U-23 Blue Team Select Bowl invite

Megan Gerber’s breakout at SUNY Brockport carried her straight onto USA Football’s U-23 Blue Team for the Select Bowl in Los Angeles, a national evaluation stage built to sort elite women’s flag players from across the country. USA Football said more than 380 athletes were selected from qualifying events nationwide for the 2026 Select Bowl, which was set for June 19-20 at Dignity Health Sports Park and streamed on HomeTeam Network.

Gerber’s invitation came after a season that ended with Brockport winning the first-ever Empire 8 Women’s Flag Football Championship on April 24. At Bob Boozer Field, Brockport beat Elmira 36-31 behind Gerber’s 260 rushing yards and one touchdown on 33 carries, plus 127 passing yards and three more scores. She was named Empire 8 Tournament MVP and accounted for nine total touchdowns across the conference tournament. Brockport finished 9-4 overall and 6-2 in league play in its inaugural varsity season, and head coach Charrise Everett called the invitation deeply rewarding while saying Gerber had worked tirelessly for the chance.

The championship game was not a one-off spike. Gerber passed 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards passing over the season, a dual-threat profile that stands out because it punishes defenses in every phase of the field. That production also helped explain why her name moved quickly from conference breakout to national radar. She was also a dual-sport athlete, competing in soccer while helping launch Brockport’s women’s flag football program.

Gerber’s path to Los Angeles went through USA Football’s Adult Talent ID Camp on May 3 at El Segundo High School in California, where athletes went through combine-style testing, flag football-specific drills and competitive scrimmages. USA Football says those camps are a pathway to U.S. national teams, and the organization is responsible for selecting Team USA Football for international events, including the 2028 Summer Olympics. The Select Bowl sat inside USA Football’s Summer Series in Los Angeles, which the organization said drew more than 1,000 athletes, coaches and team personnel, while a venue notice said more than 750 athletes from 10 countries were expected at Dignity Health Sports Park during the June flag football events.

For Brockport, in upstate New York, Gerber’s jump from inaugural varsity star to national-team evaluation is the point. Women’s collegiate flag football is building its own ladder fast, and the players who keep winning, keep producing and keep showing up at USA Football’s talent events are the ones climbing it first.
