Cary launches adult kickball league, bringing recess back to summer
Cary launched its first adult kickball league with a coed slate built for Monday and Wednesday nights, a 10-game regular season and a single-elimination tournament. The fall 2026 setup turns a schoolyard staple into a low-pressure rec option for adults who want competition without the grind of a harder league.
Registration for Cary residents runs July 13-26, with nonresident sign-ups set for July 20-26. The fee is $35 for residents and $60 for nonresidents, and Cary says the league may fill before the deadline. Players can register as an individual or a small group and be assigned to a team, while full teams are told to contact sports@carync.gov.

The town has framed the league as part of its broader adult sports mission, which is to promote health and wellness while meeting the recreational and social needs of youth, adults, families and seniors. In a June newsletter, Cary described adult kickball as a fun recreational league centered on community, laughter and friendly competition, a pitch that fits the sport’s appeal: the rules are familiar, the equipment bill is light, and the barrier to entry is far lower than in more demanding rec leagues.

That matters in Cary, where the fall sports calendar already includes adult softball, senior softball and adult volleyball. Adult kickball gives the town another way to serve players who are looking for a social night out as much as a workout, especially those who want to join with coworkers, friends or neighbors without needing a season of specialized training. Cary’s recreation system also includes more than 85 miles of greenways and more than 3,000 acres of parks and open space, a backdrop that keeps the league squarely inside the town’s wider push to make recreation easy to find and easier to start.
