Central Georgia Tech women top NJCAA academic rankings

Central Georgia Technical College’s women’s basketball team was named to the 2025-2026 NJCAA Academic Teams on July 31, 2026, and finished as the top academic women’s basketball program in the nation. The honor put CGTC at the top of the junior-college academic leaderboard in a sport where travel, practice and eligibility pressures can make classroom consistency hard to sustain.

The distinction pointed to more than a strong grade point average. NJCAA academic awards are designed to recognize student-athletes and teams that balance competition with academic performance, and CGTC’s finish suggested a roster built around daily standards that extend well beyond game day. Keeping up with classes during a demanding travel schedule, protecting study time around practice and competition, and leaning on the college’s academic support system all helped produce the result.

For a program, finishing first nationally in the NJCAA women’s basketball academic rankings carries real weight in recruiting and retention. Prospects looking for a place to develop athletically also look for a school that can keep them on track toward transfer opportunities, and CGTC now has a national academic distinction to point to when making that case. The ranking also strengthens the program’s reputation inside junior-college basketball, where stability and player development are measured not only by wins and losses but by whether athletes keep advancing in the classroom.
