Charleston Battery join rare USL Championship scoring club with back-to-back five-goal games

Charleston Battery's 5-2 win over Sporting Club Jacksonville did more than add three points to the table. The result at Hodges Stadium, after a two-and-a-half hour lightning delay, pushed Charleston into rare USL Championship company and left the Battery in second place in the Eastern Conference.

Charleston became only the fifth club in league history to score five goals in consecutive regular-season matches, following the 5-1 home win over FC Tulsa on June 13 and the 5-2 finish in Jacksonville on June 20. New York Red Bulls II are the only side to do it twice, turning the trick in both 2016 and 2018. The other clubs on the list are Louisville City FC in 2024, Orange County SC in 2018 and Rio Grande Valley FC in 2016.

Miguel Berry drove the latest burst, finishing with two goals and one assist as Charleston built a 3-0 lead before halftime. That kind of start mattered after the delay, because Jacksonville never got the game back to level terms and Charleston kept turning chances into goals instead of settling for control without end product. Across 13 league outings, the Battery have now scored 26 goals, the most in the division, and the numbers point to a team that is winning with repeatable pressure rather than a one-off scoring flurry.

The run also reflects the work of Ben Pirmann, who signed a multi-year contract extension earlier in 2026 and is set to enter his fourth season with the club. Charleston has paired that continuity with a front line that has kept producing through the early summer stretch, making the Battery's place in the scoring record book feel like a marker of where the season is headed rather than a brief spike.

The league's broader attacking picture adds another layer. Oakland Roots SC forward Peter Wilson reached 25 regular-season USL Championship goals in his 39th appearance and owns a scoring rate of 122.9 minutes per goal. Wilson, the 2025 Golden Boot winner, added a brace in Oakland's 4-3 win over Phoenix Rising FC, and the league ranked his 25-plus-goal pace third among qualified players in championship history.
