Charlie Lanphier wins USL Championship Week 19/20 Save of the Week

Charlie Lanphier’s save did more than make the rounds on a highlight clip. It came in the middle of Las Vegas Lights FC’s 2-1 comeback win at Toyota Field on July 18, the kind of stop that keeps a road result alive long enough for someone else to steal it late.

The USL Championship named the Las Vegas goalkeeper its Week 19/20 Save of the Week winner after opening fan voting through Thursday, July 23 at midnight ET. In the league’s nominee package, weeks 19 and 20 were described as producing “plenty of unexpected saves on dangerous chances,” and Lanphier’s stop was one of the plays that rose above the rest. The league also pushed the award with video footage, underlining how quickly one reaction can change the feel of a match.

That reaction mattered because Las Vegas was chasing the game before Abraham Okyere finished the comeback with nine minutes left. USL’s game highlights said Okyere’s winner handed San Antonio FC its first home league defeat of the 2026 season, which is what made Lanphier’s intervention earlier in the night so important. San Antonio had a chance to settle in at home; Lanphier helped deny that comfort and gave the Lights a runway to turn one point into three.

The award also fits the path Lanphier has taken into the league. Las Vegas signed him to his first professional contract on March 3, 2026, after he helped Ballard FC reach the 2025 USL League Two Final. Before that, he starred at Seattle University, building the résumé that got him into a pro setup in Las Vegas and, now, into the league’s weekly spotlight.

Las Vegas Lights FC promoted Lanphier’s nomination on social media and asked fans to vote, and the goalkeeper ended up taking the week’s honors. For a club looking for stability behind the ball, the timing was right, and the save came in a result that already carried weight in the Western race.
