Chatham Fire U12 earns No. 12 seed in national championship bracket

Chatham Fire U12 earned a No. 12 seed in the national championship bracket, placing a small-town flag football program in a field that NFL FLAG said included more than 350 girls and boys teams from across the United States and around the globe. The bracket spot mattered because it reflected how the team stacked up after regional play and how far it had pushed itself beyond Chatham’s local league.

The Fire’s path to that stage came through Indiana, where the 2026 NFL Flag Championships ran July 23-26 at Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield. The team had already won the 2026 New York Giants Regional Title on June 14, a result that sent the 12U group into the national tournament and set up the bracket placement that followed.

A No. 12 seed is more than a number for a youth team. It signals respect inside a national field and usually means a tougher road through elimination play, where one mistake can flip a game and one clean possession can change a season. In flag football, that kind of bracket pressure puts a premium on route timing, flag pulls and quick decisions, especially when the teams ahead have also survived regional qualification.

Coach Bazadona tied the seeding to the feel of the run itself, saying, “What made this experience so special was watching a true hometown team compete.” That line fit what Chatham brought to Westfield: a local roster carrying its town name onto a stage built for the best youth programs in the country.

NFL FLAG regional tournaments are the route into the championships, which makes Chatham’s climb meaningful beyond one bracket line. The Fire did not arrive in Indiana by chance. They earned their place by winning the New York Giants regional, then stepping into a national field where every seed pointed to a different level of expectation. For Chatham, No. 12 marked a benchmark moment, the kind that shows a youth program can measure itself against the sport’s national elite and belong there.
