Chicago Steel unveil 2026-27 schedule for first season at USG Arena

The Chicago Steel’s first season in USG Arena is already taking shape as more than a schedule release. The club will open its new west-side home with two early showcase games in the 11th annual USHL Fall Classic, then circle Saturday, Oct. 3 as the official home opener in a building that is meant to reset how Chicago junior hockey looks and feels.

The Steel released their 2026-27 regular-season slate on June 23, and the calendar is built around the move into USG Arena inside Blackhawks Ice Center, the Chicago Blackhawks’ practice home and community ice facility. The Steel will play their first game in the new rink during the Fall Classic from Sept. 16-20, with the exact date and time still to be announced, before the first formal home opener at USG Arena arrives on Oct. 3.

That shift matters because Chicago is not just changing addresses. The Steel are launching their inaugural season in the new building with season-ticket memberships already on sale, while theme nights and giveaways will be announced before single-game tickets hit the market. The club’s home schedule will be built mostly around Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, a useful setup for a team that wants packed buildings and a stronger weekend identity on the city’s west side.

The league backdrop is just as important. The USHL’s 2026-27 season will be its 25th as USA Hockey’s only Tier I junior league, and all 16 teams will play a 62-game cross-conference schedule. The regular season opens at the Fall Classic and ends on Saturday, April 3, 2027, with every USHL team in action that day. Chicago’s final home game is set for that same night against Muskegon, giving the Steel a closing date that matches the scale of the relocation.

Before the regular season starts, Chicago will also play three preseason games. The schedule opens with a home-and-home series against the Dubuque Fighting Saints, beginning in Iowa on Thursday, Sept. 3 and moving to Chicago on Friday, Sept. 4, before wrapping up against the Green Bay Gamblers in Wisconsin on Wednesday, Sept. 9. For a franchise trying to build instant familiarity in a new arena, the first few weeks are packed with chances to do it right: an early Fall Classic preview, a formal home opener and a full league schedule that stretches deep into the spring.
