College of Southern Idaho men’s basketball earns NJCAA academic honor

College of Southern Idaho men’s basketball added an NJCAA academic team honor in July 2026, giving the Golden Eagles another credential to go with a 34-3 season, a 14-1 conference mark and a run to the national title game. CSI’s 2025-26 team finished as the NJCAA Division I runner-up after Howard College beat the Golden Eagles 82-67 at Hutchinson Sports Arena in Hutchinson, Kansas.

That combination of results matters in a men’s basketball program because the classroom can shape everything from eligibility to continuity. Junior-college rosters move fast, players are balancing travel and practice with compressed academic timelines, and programs that keep showing up on the NJCAA’s academic lists usually build a steadier depth chart and a stronger pitch to recruits. CSI has now done that repeatedly: the Golden Eagles were also named an NJCAA Academic Team for the 2024-25 school year, when the program finished with a 3.38 GPA and produced five academic All-Americans.

The NJCAA’s own award structure underscores why the honor carries weight. In its 2025-26 academic-team awards, the association recognized 1,446 teams with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher, and only two teams posted perfect 4.00 GPAs. CSI’s place in that field shows the men’s basketball program is meeting a national standard, not just padding a departmental résumé.

The timing also says something about College of Southern Idaho athletics as a whole. The school posted NJCAA academic recognition stories for men’s cross country/distance track, cheerleading and baseball on July 29 and 30, 2026, with CSI baseball listing 20 honorees. The men’s basketball honor therefore fits a wider department pattern rather than standing alone as a one-off commendation.

For CSI, that makes the academic recognition more than a feel-good note after a big season. A program that can point to a national championship game appearance in March and a renewed NJCAA academic honor in July has a sharper recruiting argument, a cleaner reputation with families and a stronger case that its competitive edge is built on more than talent alone.
