Dalton Foreyt wins Most Improved after late-season breakthrough
Dalton Foreyt won UWP’s Most Improved award because his teammates saw the work turn into real value on the court. The Dodgeball Club-UWP honor goes to the player who puts in the effort to improve and take the next step, and it is decided by teammates rather than coaches. Foreyt said he felt honored to win it and that he worked hard to earn the recognition.
The clearest sign of that growth came in the final round of UWP’s last tournament, when Foreyt got two outs in a tiebreaker. That finish fit the rest of his season, which included one of his favorite moments in a matchup against GVSU, where a catch stood out enough for him to call it memorable. It also matched another pressure play in the Dr. Peter Broe Classic IV recap, where Foreyt caught the ball in a 1v1 against GVSU’s No. 11 to win a point for UWP.
Foreyt’s own description of what comes next was refreshingly specific. He said he wants to improve his catching and even joked about learning to throw harder, a reminder that his rise has been built on mechanics more than flash. UWP’s roster lists him as No. 47 and a sophomore for the 2025-26 academic year, and late-2025 team coverage identified him as one of the veterans helping lead the B team. The path has been building for a while: UWP named him a Rookie award winner alongside Caleb Laux in March 2023, then made him Baller of the Month in February 2024.
GVSU made a fitting backdrop for several of those moments. The Grand Valley Dodgeball Club says it is committed to bringing the sport to Grand Valley through team practices and campus-wide games, and its program history includes multiple national championships and runner-up finishes. A catch against that kind of opponent lands differently, especially when the season’s biggest moments are decided one round and one throw at a time.
Foreyt said he hopes to keep playing because the sport has been fun so far, and UWP’s peers have now marked him as a player whose improvement is no longer hidden in practice.
