DC Breeze hold East playoff position with road win over Phoenix
Coby Loveranes powered the DC Breeze past the Philadelphia Phoenix 21-17 on Friday at Philadelphia Neumann University turf field, finishing with three goals, two assists and 457 total yards. The road win came in Week 11 of the 2026 Ultimate Frisbee Association regular season and kept DC at 7-3 in the East while Philadelphia slipped to 1-9.
In a division where Boston Glory sat at 9-1, New York Empire at 7-2, DC at 7-3 and Toronto Rush at 5-4 after that weekend, the Breeze could not afford a flat result against the last-place Phoenix. The UFA, which plays across North America from April through August and bills itself as the top professional ultimate league in the world, puts real playoff weight on games like this, and DC handled the pressure by taking a four-goal road decision instead of letting the standings tighten behind it.
Philadelphia still made the Breeze work for the result. The Phoenix had lost 28-17 to New York at the same Neumann University turf field two days earlier, but the home setting still gave them enough energy to keep the game from getting away. A 21-17 score left little margin for error, and DC won the key possessions that kept Philadelphia from turning the matchup into an upset.

The win also fit the recent history between the clubs. Philadelphia opened the 2025 season with a 16-15 win over DC and swept the season series last year, while DC answered in 2024 with a 24-23 double-overtime victory. That history has made this East Division matchup a measured test rather than a routine stop, and the Breeze came through it with the kind of road result that protects playoff position as July deepens.
The teams were scheduled to meet again July 11 in Washington at Carlini Field, Catholic University, giving both sides a quick chance to reset the East race. For DC, the 21-17 win was less about style points than staying inside the division’s top tier when the margin for error was already shrinking.
