Dodgeball marathon record lasts 41 hours for charity

Dodgeball is built on quick bursts, sharp reflexes and instant eliminations, which is why a 41-hour, 3-minute-and-17-second marathon stands out so sharply. Guinness World Records lists the category as longest marathon playing dodgeball, and the record was organised by Right to Play at Castleton State College in Castleton, USA.

The World Dodgeball Federation’s own YouTube channel calls it the world record for the longest dodgeball match and says the current mark was 41 hours and 3 minutes, with an attempt to reach 48 hours all for charity. That kind of effort is not just about throwing longer than anyone else. It demands rotations, rest, hydration, timing and a venue that can keep officials, players and volunteers moving for nearly two full days.

The record chase has a clear history of its own. In March 2013, an upstate New York club pushed a game to 43 consecutive hours, and The New York Times noted that Castleton’s record was broken after 41 hours in that attempt. USA Today said the New York effort included two teams from the Hometown Dodgeball league in Halfmoon, New York, plus one player from Tokyo, and that the group played approximately 800 games. The scale matters because dodgeball’s marathon version turns a fast elimination sport into a test of pacing and concentration, where every throw and dodge has to survive fatigue.

The charity angle is as important as the record itself. The WDBF framing makes the event feel less like a stunt and more like a community project, one that pulls together players, referees, and organizers around a shared cause. That same formula resurfaced in December 2025, when UPI reported a 48-hour dodgeball charity attempt in England involving 24 athletes. Dodge Central organized that effort, and the Hartlepool Mavericks Dodgeball Club hosted it at The Dodgeball Center, with the Hartlepool Mail identifying the venue as The Dodgeball Centre in Hartlepool.

The federation behind the record also shows how far the sport has spread. The World Dodgeball Federation says it was formed in 2012, is headquartered in Edmonton, Canada, and works with 62 national federations around the globe. It describes itself as the official world governing body for dodgeball, and the marathon record fits that identity neatly: a sport known for speed, but one that can also ask its best players to keep going long after the usual sprint is over.
