Dubins and Cortiles stun top seeds to win La Nucía title

Brittany Dubins and Anna Cortiles turned a brutal semifinal hole into a title run, coming back from 2-6 down to beat top seeds Aida Martinez and Natividad Lopez Diaz 7-6, 6-3 before finishing off Alba Vazquez Gracia and Cristina Rodriguez Enrich 6-4, 6-1 to win the women’s draw in La Nucía. Facundo Lopez and Octavio Alvarez claimed the men’s trophy on the same final day, surviving a 6-3, 6-7, 7-6 semifinal against Jose Solano and Ramiro Pereyra and then beating Exequiel Mourino and Alejandro Calvo Perez 6-1, 6-4 in the final.

The event, officially staged as FIP Bronze Comunidad Valenciana III 2026, ran from July 1 to July 5 in La Nucía, Spain, on outdoor courts with €8,500 in prize money. Dubins and Cortiles earned 40 points for the women’s title, and the top seeds entered the draw with 1,669 points beside their names.

For Dubins, La Nucía was the fourth CUPRA FIP Tour title of 2026, adding to earlier wins with Camila Ramme in Palermo, Hamburg and Miami. The Miami victory came in a 6-1, 6-1 final, and Dubins dedicated that one to her grandmother. Cortiles, 29, was born in Tarragona on July 24, 1996 and is listed by FIP as a right-hander. This was her first title of the season.

Lopez and Alvarez won a different kind of title run, one defined by staying alive first and taking control later. Their semifinal against Solano and Pereyra went the distance, with the match decided 7-6 in the third after the pair had already split the first two sets. In the final, they were far more decisive, pulling away 6-1, 6-4 against Mourino and Calvo Perez.

Lopez had already won FIP Bronze Chile II in April and then teamed with Julian Lacamoire to win FIP Gold Shanghai in June, beating No. 1 seeds Denis Perino and Arnau Ayats 6-2, 6-4 in that final.
