El Paso Locomotive sign Zyen Jones to boost attacking depth

El Paso Locomotive FC added another layer to its attack on July 22, signing forward Zyen Jones, a 25-year-old who arrives with USL Championship experience and a newer run in Europe. The move is pending league and federation approval, but it already gives El Paso a different kind of forward option for the second half of the 2026 season.

Jones is not coming in as a project. He played in the Championship for Charlotte Independence in 2019, making 13 appearances, and later spent three years in Slovakia with FK Košice and KFC Komárno. His spell at Košice was productive: 56 matches, eight goals and six assists. That track record gives El Paso a forward who has handled the pace of the league before and has since added more professional mileage abroad.

For El Paso, the appeal is clear in roster terms. Jones brings pace, versatility and the kind of direct running that can change how a defense sets its line. He is the sort of attacker who can stretch the field, open space for teammates and give Junior Gonzalez another option when matches tighten late and chance creation depends on one more player who can beat a defender off the dribble. Even without a headline-grabbing transfer fee or a long statistical introduction, the signing points to a player who can help in rotation right away.

That matters in a long Championship campaign, especially for a club trying to keep its attack fresh as the schedule stacks up. Jones can fit as depth behind the top attacking group, but his profile suggests more than late-game insurance. If he settles quickly, he can push for minutes on the front line and offer a different look when El Paso wants more speed and unpredictability in the final third.

The signing fits the broader midseason pattern across the league, where clubs often sharpen their squads with experienced attackers rather than waiting for the market to cool.
