End of an Era: Anze Kopitar Retires as Kings’ All-Time Great After Playoff Exit
Anze Kopitar, the face of the Los Angeles Kings for two decades and the franchise’s all-time leading scorer, played the final game of his storied career as the Kings fell 5-1 to the Colorado Avalanche in Sunday’s first-round playoff matchup. The loss not only ended the Kings’ postseason run but also marked the close of one of the most decorated individual careers in NHL history.
The veteran center, who announced his retirement decision prior to the start of the season, leaves a lasting legacy both in Los Angeles and internationally. Kopitar, originally from Slovenia, captained the Kings through some of their greatest successes and became synonymous with the franchise’s identity.
