FC Tulsa signs Guatemala forward Arquímides Ordóñez for season run

FC Tulsa added Arquímides Ordóñez for the remainder of the season, pending league and federation approval, and the move reads like a deliberate upside swing. The 22-year-old Guatemala international brings seven USL Championship goals from Loudoun United, plus a scoring rate of one goal every 169.7 minutes over the past two seasons.

Tulsa did not wait long after Loudoun United FC and Ordóñez mutually terminated his contract on July 23. The timing matters because Loudoun had previously locked him into a three-year deal through the 2028 USL Championship season with a club option for 2029 after he arrived from Europe, which means Tulsa is getting a player who was still under a long-term plan somewhere else before the split opened the door.

FC Tulsa described Ordóñez as another attacking threat, and the fit is obvious if the club wants more direct finishing in the final third. Ordóñez, who is widely known as Quimi, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Aug. 5, 2003, and began his path as a Homegrown Player with FC Cincinnati in 2021 before turning into a Championship contributor and a Guatemala international. That mix gives Tulsa more than a stopgap striker; it gives the club a 22-year-old with league production, an international résumé, and room to grow.

His own words suggest he understands the stage he is walking into. FC Tulsa quoted Ordóñez as saying, “I know the fans are incredible, so it's going to be a good feeling.” That line fits the broader bet here: Tulsa is not just chasing immediate end-product, it is also buying a player who can still be reclaimed, refined and pushed toward the next level if his Loudoun numbers travel with him.

In April 2023, Ordóñez also earned a call-up to Guatemala’s U-20 national team, another marker of the pedigree Tulsa is betting on. If he turns seven goals and a 169.7-minute scoring rate into the same kind of output in Tulsa, this will look less like a depth signing and more like a sharp midseason theft.
