The Blue Crabs had clinched the first-half division title with fireworks, and results in the league’s recent record showed them beating Staten Island 8-1 and later finishing a sweep of the FerryHawks. That made the matchup more than a routine visit from a division opponent. It became a test of whether Staten Island could protect its turf against a club that had already shown it could control the series.
