FIP releases women’s draw for first Portugal Platinum Padel event

Veronica Virseda and Marina Guinart arrived in Paredes as the No. 1 seeds after their FIP Platinum Albania title, headlining a 28-pair women’s field at the first Platinum-level event ever staged in Portugal. The International Padel Federation also put 16 women from the top 50 of its ranking into the bracket, and the top four pairs were handed byes into the round of 16.

The event, officially named FIP Platinum Lusitania Portugal Master Padel, ran June 15-21 at Pavilhão Multiusos de Paredes, with Padel Clube IdealKorpus serving as the support club. The main draw began Wednesday, June 17, and the finals were set for Sunday, June 21. With EUR 120,000 in total prize money, the tournament sat high on the FIP calendar, and the payout structure underlined that status: EUR 7,500 for each winner, EUR 3,750 for each finalist, EUR 2,025 for each semifinalist, EUR 1,125 for each quarterfinalist, EUR 600 for the round of 16 and EUR 337.50 for the round of 32.

The sharpest early collision points were in the first round, where Carolina Orsi and Patty Llaguno met Ainize Santamaria and Blanca Arriola Cerrejón, Lucia Sainz and Jana Montes faced Ana Dominguez and Aida Martinez, and Alix Collombon and Ksenia Sharifova drew Natalia Molinilla and Maria Teresa Morinigo. Sainz won the first FIP Platinum event of the year in Marseille in February. Those matches shaped the bracket before the seeded pairs even stepped in.

Behind the top line, Carmen Goenaga and Beatriz Caldera entered as the No. 2 seeds after their FIP Gold victory in Almaty in early April, with Victoria Iglesias and Aranzazu Osoro at No. 3 and Jessica Castelló and Lorena Rufo at No. 4. Virseda and Guinart had the bye. José Luis Sá served as tournament director, Tomás Sabino was the main referee, and Paulo Pinto handled the player desk.
