FootGolf to reveal 2026 World Championships host nation live

FIFG used an Aug. 5 livestream to put the 2026 World Championships host-nation reveal at the center of its message, with Paimio, Finland, as the backdrop and a promise of “major updates about the future of FootGolf on the global stage.” The preview held back the host nation itself, turning the live stream into the main event and signaling that the announcement would shape more than just the next tournament logo.

That mattered most because the host decision is the clearest marker of where international FootGolf is growing. It affects where national federations start spending on travel, how far teams can plan ahead and which markets can build momentum around a championship cycle. In practical terms, the host reveal ranks above the promotional framing around it because it sets the geography of the next big stage.

The timing also landed in the middle of a packed championship calendar. FIFG had already awarded the 2026 FIFG FootGolf World Cup to Acapulco, Mexico, in a May 30, 2025 decision, then set out a qualification system that runs from May 27 to June 7 and covers Men, Women, Senior and Senior Plus divisions. Those details matter because they define who can qualify, when squads need to peak and how member countries line up their internal selection process.

The governing side of the sport has been moving just as deliberately. At its June 12 Presidents’ Meeting, FIFG said key updates were revealed about World Cup spot allocation and described the system as more inclusive and transparent. That kind of change is not cosmetic. It alters how many places each federation can chase and how national teams build their road maps months before the first tee shot.

FIFG has also been building out the event’s presentation layer. Its Acapulco 2026 broadcast page said official broadcasting and host production would be led by Televisa Univision for the first time, while a draw guide said the 2026 draw would use four pots based on previous World Cup performance, host status and regional qualification results. FIFG added another piece to the 2026 map on Feb. 6, when it announced Germany as host of the Youth World Cup, extending the sport’s international footprint across age groups and continents.
