Foul Play: Hilarious Fan-Made Sports Signs That Stole The Show

Darren Ryding - November 14, 2024

Even the biggest sports games in the world mean nothing without fans. Regular, everyday people provide meaning and soul to franchises and teams around the world. They also sometimes add extra entertainment with their sense of humor and personalities. Today, we’ll look at hilarious sports signs that made their fellow spectators stop and laugh.

There are plenty of examples from across the world of sports. Many of these show the fans’ dedication to their team because they’ll do desperate things to watch games. Others show their devotion to an individual athlete or mock an opposition player. Check out these hilarious sports signs below.

Call Me Maybe

Here’s a classic example of a fan taking their passion too far. This Angels supporter decided that watching his favorite baseball team was more important than the birth of his child. We love the attention to detail in this hilarious sign because he even added halos to all of the ‘A’s.

Ranker

However, we’re not sure that he picked the right team to miss such a key moment (via Sports Illustrated). After all, the Angels are garbage but maybe he loved Shohei Ohtani more than his newborn child. Who wants to bet that he forces his wife to call a son ‘Mike’ after Angels legend Mike Trout?

Hunting Ducks

It’s always fun when fans use popular culture references to mock an opposition team. Here’s an example from when Auburn played the Oregon Ducks. The Tigers referenced the Looney Tunes as they made their intentions clear. Check out the sign below because it’s very funny.

L.A. Times

We can see Elmer Fudd with his iconic shotgun in full Clemson regalia. It’s a bit disconcerting though because we always pegged him as a Razorbacks fan. Let’s hope that he had more luck hunting ducks than his nemesis Bugs Bunny. Fudd brought new meaning to the term ‘gunslinger’ quarterback (via WSJ).

You Can’t See

Schadenfreude is a terrible thing but we’re all guilty of it. Check out the sign below because most people will think that it’s both hilarious and awful. Somebody wrote: “The guy behind me can’t see” as they took glee in blocking their view. It’s a horrible thing to do but also kind of funny.

Cheezburger

We don’t recommend that anybody does this because it’s not fair to fellow spectators. Nobody wants to be the person behind that sign and karma may certainly strike back one day. Maybe the stadium attendants intervened and told the instigator to put it down. But not before everyone got a cheap laugh out of it (via NPR).

My Wife Understands

Some sports fans would do anything for their favorite athletes. They feel an unreciprocated bond that goes beyond buying a ticket to watch them play. It becomes an obsession with another human being so that they’re stalkers without any legal consequences.

Yahoo Sports

This hilarious sports sign shows one man’s love for another. He ‘ referring to former Winnipeg Jets icon Teemu Selanne, who enjoyed 21 seasons in the NHL. This Canadian man probably didn’t expect to feel such a strong connection to a burly Finnish athlete. But love is a fickle friend (via Sportsnet).

Stop Texting Us

Everybody enjoys it when fans mock opposition players. Of course, there’s a line because nobody wants them to be offensive. But it’s perfectly kosher to reference the athlete’s past misdeeds. This hilarious sign below is a great example because these women insulted former NFL quarterback Brett Favre.

L.A. Times

They told him to stop texting them as they alluded to his sexual harassment scandal. The NFL investigated him after he allegedly sent pictures of his genitals to a Jets promoter. It was one of the bleakest moments of his career and they brilliantly remind him that nobody will forget (via Daily Beast).

The Eye Test

There’s nothing that unites fans more than referees making bad decisions against their team. Sometimes they endure multiple bad decisions and this sends them over the edge. We know that it’s a thankless job but occasionally officials earn the consequences of their actions.

NBC Chicago

We don’t advocate threatening or verbally abusing referees. But there’s nothing wrong with doing what these fans have done with their hilarious sign. They tell the official to get an eye test in a clever notice. These basketball supporters aren’t taking any prisoners because they’re done with bad calls (via Bleacher Report).

Too Cool For School

This photo is from the World Cup in 2022 when Brazil played Switzerland. One young fan managed to snag tickets to the showpiece event. However, he turned heads with his eye-catching sign that we see below.

Ranker

We’re not sure if he managed to sneak to Doha without his mother noticing. If he did, then that’s a magnificent achievement and he has our full respect. Nonetheless, it’s funny and we give him credit for his creativity. Let’s hope he doesn’t get a detention for his actions. Meanwhile, Brazil won the game 1-0 (via Fox Sports).

Golf Is Fun

Hockey games are a thriving breeding ground for hilarious sports signs. That’s because fans are closer to the area of play than in other games. It’s not unusual for the athletes to spot the signs and react to them. This Boston Bruins supporter has an amusing message for his franchise.

Stadium Talk

We’re not sure the context of this poster but we’re assuming that they were having a tough day on the ice. Sometimes it feels like everything is going against our favorite teams and we wonder why we bother. But at least this man was able to raise a few smiles in a tough situation (via NHL.com).

Picking A Punter

Fans love taking shots at rival teams and reminding them of their bad decisions. Here we have some enterprising Seahawks fans who are annoying the Jacksonville supporters. They wrote: “Ya picked a punter over Russell Wilson.” This relates to Jacksonville notoriously selecting Bryan Anger in 2012.

Stadium Talk

Hindsight wasn’t kind to them because Wilson became an MVP contender as well as a Super Bowl winner. Every team wants a franchise quarterback so this was a massive missed opportunity. We do enjoy the long-suffering Jaguars fan who agreed to stand in the photo with them (via SBNation).

The Real Ring

Some diehard sports fans will put their team over everything else in their lives. This woman took this to another extreme when she revealed that her husband gave her a choice. She could have an engagement ring or tickets to the World Series. In the end, she made the correct choice.

Imgur

It’s a hilarious sign but the best part is that she’s so proud of herself. Meanwhile, the husband-to-be has a keeper because this woman is going to make him very happy. It’s lovely that they can share their passion and enjoy their team’s success together. They’ll always have this incredible memory (via NPR).

Three Wins

Sports signs also allow fans an opportunity to share their sharp wit. Check out the one below because it’s a magnificent example of the genre. The supporter takes a shot at the Toronto Maple Leafs with a simple but effective dig. The sign reads: “I’m surprised the Leafs have a website considering the trouble they have putting three ‘w’s’ together.”

Imgur

It’s a hilarious comment that works perfectly. We can also see the pure malicious joy on his face because he knows he made a funny sign. This also distracted his fellow fans from the game because it’s so funny. We wonder if the Maple Leafs finally broke their losing streak in this game because that would be ironic (via The Athletic).

Tebow Time

Everywhere Tebow goes there’s a furore. The former NFL quarterback played college ball with the Florida Gators. That’s where he became a national star and attracted a diehard fanbase. He also infamously took a vow of chastity until after marriage. But that didn’t dissuade the young women below.

EBaums’s World

They happily announced that they’d dump their boyfriends for some Tebow Time. We’re not sure if they mean together in a two-for-one deal. Maybe that would have been enough to lure the quarterback into action. It’s a hilarious sign and we appreciate their lack of shame (via USA Today Sports).

Twins?

One of the funniest sports signs is the type that compares an athlete to something else. Fans notice that their favorite players resemble an animal or an object. This genius spotted the uncanny similarity between Pau Gasol and an alpaca. It’s disturbing but brilliant at the same time.

BuzzFeed

We’re sure that an alpaca could have put on a Lakers jersey and nobody would have been any wiser. It’s magnificent and we’re glad that the fan brought this to our attention. This is something that Gasol probably struggled to live down in the locker room because it’s so funny (via ESPN).

Tough Love

The following sign is one of the funniest on this list but also one of the most ruthless. A father went to a Cavaliers game but opted not to bring his son. However, he had a message for his suffering offspring and it wasn’t very supportive. He wrote: “Thomas get your grades back up and next time you’ll be here, Love, Dad.”

Stadium Talk

It’s unbelievably cruel but we completely respect this parenting. The father took no prisoners as he taught his son a harsh lesson. To be fair, they were only playing the Hornets so it wasn’t that big of a game. But NBA tickets don’t come cheap so it was a pricey example to set (via Cavs Nation).

Chicago Marathon

Marathons are one of the toughest individual endeavors a normal person can do. It’s a phenomenal test of human perseverance and fitness. The last few miles are the toughest because it feels like the feet are about to fall off or explode with blisters. However, one spectator had some very inspiring advice.

Time Out

This is a hilarious sign that could also serve as general life advice. Maybe everybody would be happy if they followed cute butts everywhere. It’s probably not the most politically correct thing to say but who cares? Life is short and this is a funny thing that means no harm (via Time Out).

Puppy Time

It looks like this is a Kansas City Royals baseball game. These fans are having a fantastic time as they enjoy the ballgame. But one fan has an even bigger smile on her face as she brandishes a massive sign above her head. The poster has a picture of a corgi with a brilliant caption.

Ranker

The lady’s sign says that her partner will buy her a puppy if they win. We wonder if he secretly wants one and he’s using the Royals’ game as an excuse. Perhaps, they’re on a bad run and he’s secretly rooting against his team for the first time. We can’t be certain but it’s a hilarious sign (via Fox Sports).

No Mercy

Some sports fans use signs as a way to signal disapproval. We can see the example below because it shows that this hockey fan has no time for officials. Once again, we don’t advocate abusing referees because they have a very tough job. But sometimes it feels like the world is against our teams.

Stadium Talk

That’s why we don’t blame the man above for waving this sign at the officials. He’s not a happy camper but he’s going to make his point. We wonder if the referee turned and saw his message because it wouldn’t inspire confidence. The fans around him don’t look very pleased either (via Sportskeeda).

I Have Cramps Too!

Lebron James is one of the greatest NBA players ever but he rubbed some Miami fans the wrong way in 2014. Cramps afflicted him in Game One of the NBA Finals and he exited multiple times. Many people reacted derisively and called him soft for his inability to play through the pain barrier.

AP

This fan had a hilarious message for the former MVP. She told him that she also had cramps, a struggle that most women face every month. We’re not sure it’s quite the same but we’re here for it because it’s very funny. We also like the other lady’s cutout of LeBron’s wincing face (via NBA.com).

Two Wrongs…

This hilarious photo shows a child with a brilliant sense of humor. He has a message for Fox as he tells them that sometimes two wrongs can make a right. The boy says that his parents are Packers fans but we can see that he’s wearing another jersey. Maybe his parents should take a look at themselves because we don’t know how this could happen.

Stadium Talk

The kid has a Vikings jersey on, showing that he roots for the Packers’ longtime NFC North rival. Regardless, it’s not a Packers jersey which shows that something went badly wrong. Most self-respecting families wouldn’t allow this to happen (via NFL.com).

Hey Ref!

Here’s another example of a frustrated supporter targeting a referee. This time it’s a Washington Capitals supporter who doesn’t have any time for the officials. We love that she had this sign ready and waiting for its moment to shine. She was like a pest exterminator with a can of Raid.

Time Out

It’s a crude message but it’s hilarious and does the job. It would be more uncomfortable for a man to talk about another man’s wife. Meanwhile, it helps that it looks like she’s a regular housewife but she’s not pulling any punches (via RMNB).

Cheating Boyfriend

It’s never a good idea to cheat on boyfriends or girlfriends. One woman discovered that her partner committed this horrible act so she took revenge. She broke up with him and went to watch their favorite team play. It appears that she’s at a Packers game as she takes her shot at her ex.

Imgur

The smile on her face suggests that she has no regrets and she’s happy to publically humiliate him. That’s perfectly fair because he did a horrible thing when he broke her heart. Nobody deserves that but we respect her petty vengeance. Hopefully, he learned his lesson from this incident (via SBNation).

Pregnant Wife

Here’s another case of sports fans taking their obsession a little bit too far. This is one of the most beta male things we’ve ever seen. This couple’s sign says: “Dirk, my wife is pregnant. I hope it’s yours!” It’s simultaneously hilarious but also one of the most cringeworthy statements ever.

Stadium Talk

Maybe this man is a genius and he’s playing the long game. He’s hoping that his future child will be an NBA star too because he’ll become a millionaire. Then he’ll retire with a nice house and no worries. If that’s his strategy then that’s some big-brain thinking and we apologize for mocking him (via NBC).

Your Cute Bun

This Las Vegas fan showed no mercy with this cruel but hilarious comparison. He held a sign that had the opposition’s star player alongside a garbage bag. Then he compared the athlete’s hair bun to it in a devastating manner. It was creative but cruel and we love it.

Funny Signs

The man deserves full credit for his audacity because it’s a fantastic effort. This is uncanny and it’s brilliant that he spotted it. He’s happy to be the center of attention and we’re sure that his fellow fans also enjoyed his work. It’s nice to know that high school art class serves a purpose (via AP News).

So Heavy

Tom Brady was a key player in one of the most notorious football scandals in recent years. DeflateGate saw him serve a suspension but he had the last laugh. That’s because he won the MVP award after his return. But rival fans didn’t allow him to forget his cheating ways, especially the Bills.

Fansided

These Buffalo supporters happily teased the New England quarterback with the hilarious poster above. They took merciless shots at Brady as they showed him having a tantrum. It’s simple but it’s effective and that’s why we love it. Leave it to the Bills Mafia to do it right (via USA Today Sports).

Marry Me Aaron

Sometimes couples give each other a free pass when it comes to meeting other people. Usually, it’s in the case of celebrities because they realize that there’s a one-in-a-million chance of anything happening. However, this woman tried to lower the odds by attracting Aaron Rodgers’ attention with a gigantic sign.

Baum’s World

We also appreciate how her suffering husband accepts that he is second-best to the former Packers quarterback. Maybe they’ll change their opinion now that he’s no longer with the franchise. Nonetheless, it’s a hilarious sign and we admire her bold approach. The good news is she looks a little like Shailene Woodley so she is his type (via People).
