Founders Cup crowns kickball's world champions in Las Vegas

Kickball’s biggest title does not come from a weekly league night. It comes from the Founders Cup, an invite-only tournament in Las Vegas that crowns the World Champions of Kickball during WAKApalooza.

That setup is what gives the event its weight. The World Kickball Association says there is no professional league in the sport, but ClubWAKA runs seasonal kickball across the United States and sends divisional winners to Las Vegas each October for the championship. The result is a clear ladder: win locally, advance through the divisional structure, and earn a place on kickball’s biggest stage.

The history is part of the point. The championship lineage runs back to the first Founders Cup in 1998, which turns the event into more than a one-off festival stop. WAKA’s champions archive tracks the winners year by year, starting with The Big Kids in 1998 and continuing through later title teams including After School Specials, Kick Asphalts, Panik Attack, Relax and WeRD Werd.

That record matters because kickball does not have the clutter of a major pro calendar. Its legitimacy is built differently, through an annual summit that collects the best teams in one place, preserves the results and repeats the same test every year. Las Vegas is not just a host city here. It is the sport’s stage, the place where a recreational game’s most serious competitors arrive to settle a national pecking order.

WAKApalooza adds the festival atmosphere, but the Founders Cup remains the anchor. The invite-only field, the preserved championship history and the steady October slot give kickball something many larger sports still chase: a title that feels official because the route to it is official. For a sport that still lives mostly in local leagues, that is how a championship becomes the center of gravity.
