In July 2022, the IQA joined US Quidditch and Major League Quidditch in changing the name from quidditch to quadball worldwide, a move that gave the sport a cleaner identity as it pushes into broader sports coverage.

A Facebook listing describes the group as serving the greater Philadelphia area and neighboring communities, showing that the team’s reach extends beyond a single practice field.

The FOX 29 spot fits into a longer local run of quadball visibility. The Philadelphia Inquirer covered a quadball championship in Conshohocken in April 2023 and described it as the sport formerly known as quidditch, noting that the weekend marked the first time the championship used the new name. Put together with the August 7 feature, that kind of coverage shows quadball moving from niche fandom into the kind of community sports story local TV can package for a general audience.

For Philadelphia, the TV exposure is more than a novelty.
