FOX59 previews NFL Flag Championships at Grand Park in Westfield

FOX59’s Claire Curry went live from Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield on July 23 as the 2026 NFL FLAG Championships opened, and the scale of the event already looked bigger than a routine youth tournament. The competition has been framed by the NFL and local organizers as the world’s premier youth flag football showcase, and this year’s move to central Indiana put that branding in front of a national audience.

The official schedule had the 2026 NFL FLAG Championships presented by Toyota running July 23-26 at Droplight Grand Park Sports Campus, with championship games set for Sunday, July 26. The NFL said RCX Sports operated the event, and it described Droplight Grand Park as a 400-plus-acre complex with more than 30 multi-purpose fields in the Indianapolis metro area, a setting built for a tournament of this size.

That footprint mattered immediately. ESPN said more than 350 teams of youth athletes would descend on Grand Park Sports Campus, while WTHR reported the field would include more than 350 teams and thousands of participants. WRTV also reported more than 350 flag football teams from around the world were in Westfield for the championships, underscoring how far the event has grown beyond a regional stop.

The opening phase was already underway around age-group brackets. FOX59 said pool play would begin the next day for the high school girls and 14U divisions, a format that puts early games under immediate pressure because seeding can shape the path to the knockout rounds. A live YouTube schedule posted July 22 also listed morning competition on July 23 for the 12U coed and 12U girls divisions, showing the championship slate spread across multiple age groups from the start.

Westfield’s selection did more than fill a summer calendar slot. City of Westfield officials, Indiana Sports Corp, Visit Indy and Grand Park Sports Campus all pushed the event in advance, and Grand Park itself promoted the championships as the world’s premier youth flag football tournament coming to the campus July 23-26. The Reporter said in a May 26 post that the championships would bring the third annual NFL FLAG event, presented by Toyota, to Droplight Grand Park Sports Campus, putting one of the fastest-growing forms of football on a major stage in central Indiana.
