Geneva’s Swedish Days dodgeball tournament set for youth showdown

Six-player lines and age-group brackets gave Geneva’s Swedish Days Dodgeball Tournament a tight, youth-first feel at Wheeler Park, 822 N. 1st St. in Geneva. The Geneva Park District set the Thursday morning event for 9:00 a.m. to noon CDT, with the field already locked after registration closed June 19 at 9:30 p.m.

The format was built for pace. Teams carried six to eight players, six were on the court at a time, and every roster was guaranteed at least two games. The Geneva Chamber’s Swedish Days schedule said the tournament was officiated by All Star Sports Instruction, with prizes for the winning team in each age division and T-shirts handed to every participant.

The park district listed the event for grades 3 through 8, while the Swedish Days schedule narrowed the field further to 8- to 14-year-olds split into ages 8-10, 10-12 and 12-14. Registration for the 2026-27 school year was the basis for entry, and Cory was the contact for questions at 630-232-4501. The entry fee was set at $30 for residents and $40 for nonresidents, a modest buy-in for a festival event that gave younger players a short, manageable path into organized dodgeball.

That place inside Swedish Days matters as much as the bracket. Swedish Days ran June 24-28 in 2026 and marked its 76th year, part of a festival that the Geneva Chamber says celebrates the heritage of Swedish immigrants who settled in the Geneva area. The Geneva Public Library traces its civic reach back to 1949, and a 2025 city notice pointed to that history with a display titled A Stroll Through History - Celebrating 75 Years of Swedish Days. Against that backdrop, the dodgeball tournament worked less like a stand-alone youth outing and more like a built-in festival stop, giving families a quick morning event, younger players a taste of competitive play, and the holiday-week crowd another reason to stay downtown.
