Hartford's Michee Ngalina becomes youngest to reach 40 goals, 30 assists

Michee Ngalina became the youngest player in USL Championship history to reach 40 goals and 30 assists, joining the league’s 15-member regular-season club after his assist in Hartford Athletic’s 2-2 draw with Orange County SC on July 8.

The milestone came on Barry Coffey’s second goal of the match, a second-half finish that Ngalina set up to help Hartford leave California with a point. That pass was Ngalina’s 30th regular-season assist, and it pushed the winger into rare company in a league that usually separates finishers from creators.

Ngalina’s age makes the achievement stand out even more. Hartford signed him on Feb. 8, 2024, when he was 23, and the 26-year-old has moved from a high-upside arrival to one of the club’s most efficient attacking weapons in a little more than two seasons. Back in October 2019, Philadelphia Union and Bethlehem Steel FC had him on the USL Championship’s 20 Under 20 list at No. 13, with six goals and two assists through 20 appearances. USL later named him its 2022 Young Player of the Year before he left for Göztepe S.K. in January 2023 and came back to the Championship with Hartford.

That production curve puts Ngalina in a different conversation from most wide players in the league. Solomon Asante’s August 2019 run, six goals and three assists in a single month, remains one of the sharpest stretches of final-third output the Championship has seen, while Enzo Martínez has built one of the league’s biggest all-time attacking totals at 78 goals and 53 assists. Ngalina does not have the accumulated volume of those names yet, but he reached the 40-goal, 30-assist line at a younger age than anyone else, which points to a ceiling Hartford has leaned on as the season has tightened.

The July 15 USL notes also included Phoenix Rising FC’s Jaethan Irwin earning his first assist and Orange County SC reaching an all-time road goals landmark, but Ngalina’s marker was the one that carried league-wide weight. Hartford now has a winger whose goals and assists have already put him among the Championship’s most productive multi-season attackers, and the club’s reliance on him only grows as every point starts to matter more.
