Huntley Park District touts 21-and-over Cup-in-Hand Kickball tournament

Huntley Park District has framed its Cup-in-Hand Kickball Tournament as a 21-and-over event, and the biggest selling point is the setting as much as the game. The tournament is set for Tomaso Sports Park’s brand new turf fields, a detail that matters in kickball, where cleaner hops and firmer footing can change how an inning unfolds.

That move fits neatly inside Huntley’s broader adult-recreation lineup. The district says it offers recreational and in-house adult sports leagues throughout the year in basketball, pickleball and softball, and its park ordinances cover parks, playgrounds, open spaces and sports field locations. Adult softball rules also require each team to name a representative who serves as the sole liaison with the park district, which underscores how structured the district’s adult sports operation already is.

Cup-in-Hand was built from the start as a different kind of rec program. Huntley’s July 2023 e-newsletter introduced the inaugural tournament as a coed, one-day event, with teams of 10 players, a minimum of four females and the option for individual sign-ups if enough players registered. That format made clear the target player: adults who want organized competition, but not the formality of a full league season.

The district later leaned into that identity with a post calling it “a classic school yard game with an adult twist (21+),” part of a message that positioned the event as both competitive and social. Huntley also described it as returning for its third year in an Instagram post, calling it “very popular,” which shows the tournament had already moved beyond a novelty entry on the summer calendar.

The listing details were split across platforms. The Facebook event page placed the tournament at Tomaso Park, 11950 Ackman Rd., Huntley, Illinois 60142, from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. CDT on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026. Eventeny, meanwhile, listed a Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026 start date. However it was ultimately scheduled, Huntley’s pitch was clear: adult kickball is no longer just a side attraction, and Cup-in-Hand has become one of the district’s more visible sports offerings.
