India’s 3rd Junior, Senior National Racquetball Championship opens in Chandigarh

A ribbon-cutting ceremony officially opened the 3rd Junior/Senior National Racquetball Championship 2026 at Rayat Bahra University in Chandigarh, with the opening post calling it “THE CHAMPIONSHIP IS OFFICIALLY OPEN!” and marking the start of the three-day meet. The announcement framed the launch as a proud moment, with the ribbon cut to formally begin competition from 7-9 August 2026.

Indian Racquetball’s tournament listing placed the event at Rayat Bahra University, Mohali, Chandigarh, and identified it as the 2026 3rd Junior & Senior Racquetball National Championships. The same championship was promoted on Instagram with junior age-group divisions visible in the post, including BU11, GU11, BU13, GU13 and BU15, a clear sign that the domestic structure is not limited to a senior open draw. By placing junior and senior categories under one championship banner, the federation gave the event the look of a development ladder rather than a one-off showcase.

The venue choice mattered as much as the ceremony. Rayat Bahra University in Chandigarh, also listed as being in Mohali and Kharar in other official posts, offered a university setting that fits a national championship trying to grow its footprint. Rajasthan Racquetball welcomed the event with a message to India and repeated the dates of 07 Aug. to 09 Aug. 2026, while also naming Anibal Osvaldo Maggi Leon as President. The tone across those posts was celebratory, but the structure was more important: a formal opening, a recognized venue and age-group brackets all pointed to a sport trying to build legitimacy through organization.

That broader pathway extends beyond Chandigarh. The Indian Racquetball Association’s homepage says six elite athletes officially qualified to represent India at the 2026 Racquetball World Championships in Temuco, Chile, and describes its mission around athlete support and international excellence. Put alongside the national championship in Chandigarh, that creates a clearer picture of where Indian racquetball is headed: the juniors in BU11 through BU15 are being brought into the same system that is already sending elite players to the world stage.
