Ireland men qualify for 2026 FootGolf World Cup in Mexico

Ireland’s men have qualified for the 2026 Federation for International FootGolf World Cup in Acapulco, Mexico, and the place itself says the program has moved beyond chasing credibility. It now has a seat at the sport’s biggest table.

FIFG chose Acapulco, Guerrero, as the host city on May 30, 2025 after a bidding race that included a strong Swedish proposal, then launched the official event website on Nov. 23, 2025. The championship is branded by FIFG as the FootGolf World Championship Acapulco 2026, and official materials place it from May 27 to June 7, 2026.

That matters because the 2026 qualification system was built to do more than fill brackets. FIFG says it was designed to ensure global representation, competitiveness and active participation across men, women, senior and senior-plus categories. Ireland did not stumble into that field by default. It got through a structure meant to separate established national programs from the rest, and the men’s event format, with group-stage play and live leaderboards, leaves little margin for a side that is not ready to compete over multiple rounds.

The milestone also points to depth inside the Irish pathway. The official Acapulco 2026 site already includes an Ireland team roster page, a small but telling sign that this is now a properly staged national-team operation rather than a one-off appearance. For the FootGolf Association of Ireland, qualification is evidence that the domestic setup is producing enough quality to keep pace with FIFG’s international standards.

FIFG’s official Acapulco 2026 Instagram account called the event “the 5th FootGolf World Championship in the History,” which underlines how young the championship still is and why a place in it carries real weight. Ireland’s men have now done the hard part: they have made the field. The next step is tougher, because qualification alone does not translate into results. The task is to build a squad that can survive group play, handle the pressure of the leaderboard format and turn a breakthrough into a run that matches the program’s new standing.
