Jewett Community Day brings kickball, fireworks and family fun to park

Kickball anchored Jewett Community Day at Jewett Park, where the village packed a full day of activities into one summer celebration built for every age. The schedule mixed a pancake breakfast, barbecue chicken dinners, kids games, rides, a car show and fireworks with kickball and cornhole tournaments.

The sports piece fit the larger plan. Kickball gave Jewett an easy entry point for children, parents and grandparents, the kind of game that can turn a park into a playing field without a long setup or specialized equipment. The Harrison County calendar of events labeled the celebration a Jewett Community Days 250 Year Celebration, making the kickball tournament part of a broader effort to restore a shared tradition, not a standalone bracket.

That mattered in a village of 554 people in the 2020 census, where an all-day gathering can change the feel of the entire town. Jewett was originally platted as Fairview in 1851 and renamed after the Civil War, and Harrison County tourism material notes that Pennsylvania and Wheeling & Lake Erie railroad lines once ran through the community. In May 2026, village posts said the Jewett Park Building had been remodeled and opened for a community open house, another sign that the park remains the center of local life.

Community Day had already been described as a big hit and a major success last year, and village leaders were still seeking sponsors and activity ideas as they worked to build the event again. Volunteers were directed to contact the Jewett Park Foundation, underscoring how much the celebration depended on local hands. For Jewett, success looked like a crowded park, families staying through the day and kickball helping turn a village gathering into a revived tradition.
