Jorge Hernández reaches historic 40-assist mark in San Antonio FC comeback win
Jorge Hernández became the 10th player in USL Championship history to reach 40 regular-season assists in a 2-1 comeback over Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. He did it in his 183rd regular-season appearance, and at 25, no player in league history had hit that mark younger.
The Switchbacks led when Khori Bennett converted after Akeem Ward was whistled for a penalty in the 15th minute. Joey Batrouni kept San Antonio from facing a worse deficit, saving the initial penalty attempt before Colorado Springs scored on the rebound. San Antonio answered before halftime, with Hernández slipping the pass that Dmitrii Erofeev finished for the equalizer.

About 20 minutes from full time, Hernández's corner found Alex Crognale, who headed home to complete the turnaround and give San Antonio the season-series edge. Batrouni then tipped a Matt Mahoney effort over the crossbar in stoppage time to preserve all three points at Weidner Field.
Hernández ended the night with 41 career assists in league play, plus three chances created, 19 completed passes on 29 attempts and four wins in seven ground duels. San Antonio FC credited him with a pair of assists in the comeback.

San Antonio and Colorado Springs played to a 3-3 draw on May 2 at Toyota Field, when Hernández scored the club’s first brace of the regular season and earned Team of the Week honors after the performance. Colorado Springs snapped a long winless run in the series in 2024, ending a stretch that dated back to March 23, 2019, but San Antonio won this match and closed out June on the road.
