Kamloops teen returns from world championships with silver medal

A Kamloops teen returned from the World Championships in Spain with a silver medal and called the trip the "best experience" of the journey. The finish put a local player on one of ultimate frisbee's biggest stages and brought home more than hardware from a run that stretched from British Columbia to Europe.

The medal capped a summer trip that began when the Kamloops player headed to Spain for the tournament. At that level, every possession carries weight, and the difference between gold and silver can come down to a single turnover, a single defensive read or one clean score in a tight stretch. Coming home with silver means the athlete spent the tournament in the pressure games that shape players fast, where international styles and tempo force quick adjustments.

For Kamloops, the result fits a wider pattern that has been building across the Interior. In April, Androlick of Kamloops earned a Team Canada nod for the World Junior Ultimate Championships, another sign that the region is producing players who can move from local fields to national selection. Castanet has also covered a Kelowna Secondary-hosted ultimate frisbee event, evidence that the sport's base is not confined to one school or one city.

That matters in ultimate because the sport still grows through club runs, school programs and the players who come back from major events with something to show younger athletes. A silver medal from the World Championships gives Kamloops a concrete example of what that pathway can look like: start in a hometown league, keep stacking reps, earn higher-level looks and be ready when the opportunity lands on the international schedule.
