Lake Region State College men unveil 2026-27 recruiting class
Lake Region State College men’s basketball has rebuilt around volume, bringing in 13 newcomers to join just four returning players from the 2025-26 team. That makes Jared Marshall’s 2026-27 class less of a routine signing announcement and more of a roster overhaul aimed at lifting the Royals out of a 3-9 Mon-Dak finish and a 13-18 overall season.
Marshall, a native of Greeley, Colorado, just completed his 11th season as head coach of the Royals, and this class gives him a fresh base to shape before conference play begins. In junior college basketball, where turnover hits every year and sophomores quickly move on, a class this large is a direct answer to depth, lineup balance and the need for players who can contribute immediately. For LRSC, the question is no longer simply whether the roster is full, but whether the new group raises the program’s ceiling inside a compact league that stretches across North Dakota and Montana.
The Mon-Dak Athletic Conference’s eight-school footprint leaves little room for slow starts, which is why the Royals’ early benchmark matters. LRSC’s 2026-27 schedule already includes an Oct. 4 scrimmage at the Iowa Juco Jamboree in Des Moines, a first chance to measure how quickly the new pieces can settle into Marshall’s system. That matchup will matter as much for chemistry as for score, because a roster with 13 additions must develop its rotations, defensive coverages and ballhandling hierarchy before the league grind begins.
The size of the incoming class also says something about the program’s offseason plan. With only four returners from the previous team, LRSC is not merely patching holes. It is using recruiting to reconstruct the core, adding enough bodies to compete for minutes and enough competition to force the best five onto the floor. The Royals’ identity in 2026-27 will be defined by how well Marshall’s staff turns that turnover into stability, and whether this class can push LRSC from rebuilding mode back into the middle of the Mon-Dak race.
