Lexington SC adds Cielo Tschantret on loan from Sporting Kansas City

Lexington SC added 20-year-old midfielder Cielo Tschantret on loan from Sporting Kansas City for the rest of the 2026 USL Championship season, giving the club another young option for the stretch run. The move is more than a depth piece: Tschantret arrives with a real attacking sample, having posted six goals and two assists in 57 appearances for Sporting KC II.

For Lexington, the appeal is fit. Tschantret has been listed as a central midfielder and defensive midfielder, which gives the club flexibility in the middle of the field as the season tightens. His profile suggests a player who can help carry the ball forward, connect possession from deeper areas and arrive late enough to contribute in the attacking third, all while adding competition for minutes in a demanding league schedule.

Sporting Kansas City has been building him along that path for several years. The club signed Tschantret as a Homegrown Player ahead of the 2026 campaign, then gave him his MLS debut against the Vancouver Whitecaps on April 17. Sporting KC also signed him in November 2025 to a two-year MLS contract through 2027, with club options for 2028 and 2029, and identified him as the 23rd Homegrown Player to come through its pathway.

His background helps explain why Lexington wanted him now. A Sporting KC social post said he spent five years in the club’s Pro Player Pathway, and the loan announcement identified him as the son of Sporting KC II head coach Lee Tschantret, a Kansas City native. That mix of academy development, first-team exposure and reserve-team mileage gives Lexington a midfielder who is still young at 20 but not untested.

Tschantret’s earlier numbers show a player who has already contributed at the professional level. He finished the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season with two goals in six matches, appeared three times early in 2024 and later captained Sporting KC II in 2025, reinforcing his value as a player who has handled responsibility at the reserve level.

The loan runs through the remainder of the 2026 season, and Sporting KC kept the right to recall him at any point. For Lexington, that makes the move a low-risk way to add a young, proven body to the midfield rotation just as the season enters its critical phase.
