London delivers landmark Premier Padel debut, Calvo and Fernandez make history

Martina Calvo and Claudia Fernández won London’s first Premier Padel women’s title, beating Paula Josemaría and Bea González 6-2, 6-4 at Olympia as 20,000 fans packed the venue for the sport’s first UK stop. The result gave the six-day event a historic finish and gave London exactly the marquee atmosphere Premier Padel had been aiming to create.

The tournament ran from 4-9 August 2026 in the Grand Hall at Olympia, making it the first-ever Premier Padel event on UK soil. Olympia had already positioned itself as a major stage for the sport after a £1.3bn transformation, and the event’s presentation matched that billing with a polished city-centre backdrop for elite padel’s speed, athleticism and noise.

Calvo and Fernández kept their recent surge rolling by reaching another final a week after Pretoria P1, then finishing the job in London against Josemaría and González. Premier Padel said Calvo became the youngest player to win a Premier Padel title, a milestone that underlined how quickly the women’s draw is opening to a new generation. Their victory also made them the first women’s champions in London.

The men’s final delivered a different kind of statement. Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia beat Paquito Navarro and Martín Di Nenno 7-5, 6-3 in what Premier Padel described as a Superclásico, sealing another title for one of the defining partnerships in the sport. Coello and Tapia’s win provided the close that London needed after a final day built around top-end shotmaking and sustained crowd energy.

The bigger question around London P1 was never only who lifted the trophies, but whether Britain could support an elite padel event at scale. ESPN put the UK’s recreational player base at around one million, and said London P1 could become the Wimbledon of padel, with the tournament expected to remain at Olympia for 2027. The strong turnout, the venue’s upgraded profile and the first UK champions gave the debut the kind of commercial and sporting proof Premier Padel needed from one of the world’s most important sports markets.
