Loudoun United and Sporting JAX share dramatic 2-2 draw on stoppage time equalizer

Loudoun United had the finish it wanted for one minute and then lost it two minutes later, settling for a 2-2 draw with Sporting JAX at Segra Field in Leesburg, Virginia. In a Week 18 match that opened Friday at 7:00 p.m. ET, Loudoun twice came from behind, only to watch Emil Jääskeläinen spoil the home side’s late surge with a stoppage-time equalizer.

Sporting JAX struck first in first-half stoppage time when Kieran Sadlier put the visitors ahead at 45'+1. Loudoun answered after the break, with Arquímides Ordóñez pulling the home side level in the 81st minute and turning the match into a late test of nerve. Abdellatif Aboukoura then appeared to have won it when he scored in 90'+1, giving Loudoun a 2-1 lead and sending the home crowd into celebration.

That lead lasted only until 90'+3, when Emil Jääskeläinen found the equalizer and left Loudoun to settle for a point instead of three. The first meeting between the clubs ended level, but the closing sequence felt especially costly for Loudoun because it had already done the hard part of erasing a deficit and briefly seizing control.

The result carried extra weight for both sides. Loudoun entered at 1-8-5 with 11 points, still searching for stability in a season that has made every home point feel essential. Sporting JAX arrived at 0-4-11 with 4 points, and the late salvage kept the visitors from leaving empty-handed again while extending the wait for a first league win.

Afterward, head coach Anthony Limbrick said Loudoun believed it had done enough to take all three points, but needed to learn how to close games out. Aboukoura said the goal meant something because it came in front of his family, but he also stressed that Loudoun still has “a long way to go.” Those two reactions captured the night well: the attacking moments were there, but the final minutes exposed how little margin Loudoun has when control slips for even a moment.

The clubs will see each other again on September 26 at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida, and this draw gives that rematch an immediate edge. Loudoun left Segra Field with a point and a reminder that late-game structure matters as much as late-game belief.
