Miguel Berry earns Team of the Week after Charleston’s 5-2 win
Miguel Berry turned Charleston’s 5-2 win over Sporting Club Jacksonville into a statement night and then got rewarded with a place on the USL Championship Week 16 Team of the Week. The Battery forward scored twice, added one assist and touched nearly every part of the attacking pattern in a road victory that pushed Charleston to second in the Eastern Conference.
Berry’s line at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida, was as complete as it gets for a forward. He took four shots, created one chance, completed 22 of 26 passes and hit the woodwork once, the kind of all-around production that explains why the league put him on the week’s top XI. Charleston also scored early and often, opening a 3-0 lead inside the first 20 minutes before finishing the job after a two-and-a-half-hour lightning delay.

The Battery’s third goal came in the middle of a first half that never let Sporting Club Jacksonville settle. Berry’s second strike mattered most in game state, because it came after halftime and shut down the home side’s brief push back into the match. He nearly added a hat trick late as well, but his free kick clipped the post and the rebound fell to Alec Hughes, who finished to make it 5-2. That capped a road win that completed the season sweep over Jacksonville and kept Charleston rolling in front of the Eastern Conference race.
The brace carried extra weight because it was Berry’s first since August 2021, when he scored twice for Columbus Crew against FC Cincinnati. Charleston signed him ahead of the 2026 season, betting that a striker with 13 goals in 125 MLS appearances and championship experience with Columbus Crew and LA Galaxy could translate into a bigger role in USL Championship. On Saturday night, he looked exactly like the kind of player who can tilt a match by himself.

The recognition also fit the larger Charleston picture. Berry’s selection gave the Battery 11 Team of the Week or Team of the Round honors in 2026, a sign of how often different pieces have shown up in league-wide recognition. The club has scored 10 goals over its previous two matches, and the next test was set for Wednesday, June 24, at home against Loudoun United FC at Patriots Point. Loudoun entered that match at 1-4-7 with 10 points after a 1-1 draw with Birmingham Legion FC, while Peter Wilson of Oakland Roots SC won Player of the Week with 73 percent of the vote after a three-goal, one-assist burst across two outings. Berry finished second with 18 percent, but for Charleston, the bigger number was still the one on the scoreboard in Jacksonville.
