NAACP Las Vegas hosts second annual dodgeball fundraiser at Pearson Community Center

NAACP Las Vegas brought back its second annual dodgeball tournament at Pearson Community Center, using six-player squads and a fast, easy-to-stage game to raise money for the branch’s legal-access work. Promotional materials listed the event for Aug. 1, 2026 at 10:30 a.m., and the format kept the action rooted in a neighborhood venue rather than a large tournament complex.

The branch framed the event as more than a casual benefit. Its online materials branded it the “2nd Annual Dodgeball Tournament” and tied the fundraiser directly to the NAACP Legal Redress Committee, including a separate page that said the event “empowers legal access.” That positioning made the sport the entry point, with the legal mission attached to the experience of playing, watching and showing up.

That approach followed a 2025 debut that established the template. A July 30, 2025 News 3 Las Vegas video previewed the inaugural Dodgeball Competition Fundraiser at the Pearson Center in North Las Vegas, set for Aug. 2, 2025, and described it as open to both seasoned players and first-time participants. The preview cast the event as a mix of athletic competition and public outreach, a setup designed to pull in people who might not otherwise attend an NAACP program.

The second annual return showed why dodgeball has become such a useful tool for civic fundraising. It is quick to organize, requires little equipment and invites mixed skill levels, which makes it easier to bring in new faces than a more expensive or specialized sport. At Pearson Community Center, that flexibility gave NAACP Las Vegas a way to turn recreation into a direct introduction to the branch’s mission, with the Legal Redress Committee front and center as the fundraiser linked play to access, visibility and support.
