NC State lands JUCO big man C Shah Hall for frontcourt depth

NC State added 6-foot-10 junior-college center Shah Hall to its 2026-27 roster, giving Justin Gainey another big body after the coach made frontcourt depth a priority when he was introduced on April 1. Hall arrived from Shelton State Community College with size, production and a track record that fit the Wolfpack’s search for immediate help inside.

Hall, listed at 240 pounds, played at Northwest Mississippi State Community College before moving to Shelton State in Alabama. At Shelton State in 2025-26, he averaged 9.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game, numbers that made him one of the more recognizable interior names in the NJCAA transfer market. Recruiting coverage identified him as an NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American, a label that matched the profile NC State was chasing: a center who could step into a power-conference rotation without needing a long runway.

That kind of profile has become a familiar answer for high-major coaches who need post size quickly, and Hall’s path showed why. UAB Athletics announced on April 16 that Andy Kennedy had signed Hall from Shelton State, with Kennedy calling him a “JUCO big man.” Hall later reopened his recruitment, took an official visit to NC State earlier that week, and eventually chose the Wolfpack over Arkansas, according to recruiting coverage. NC State then signed him, completing a rapid turn that moved him from one high-major stop to another.

For Gainey, the fit was obvious. The Wolfpack coach’s early roster-building emphasis centered on adding toughness and depth in the frontcourt, where a foul or injury can expose thin numbers quickly. Hall’s frame and rebounding numbers gave NC State another option for interior rotation minutes, and his blocks total suggested he could bring some rim protection as well.

NC State’s official 2026-27 men’s basketball roster later included Hall, confirming the commitment became a roster addition. June roster reporting listed the Wolfpack with 13 players after adding Hall, with two scholarship spots still open, leaving NC State’s offseason reset anchored by the same position that drove the pursuit in the first place.
