Olathe West names Dee Bell for inaugural flag football season

Olathe West put Dee Bell in charge of the first varsity flag football program in Kansas, turning a fast-rising idea into an actual school sport with a head coach, a roster to build and a season to play.

That appointment matters because it arrives after the Kansas State High School Activities Association formally approved girls flag football as a sanctioned sport on April 23, 2026. With the sport now officially recognized in Kansas, the bar is no longer just showing up. It is building something sustainable enough to last.

That gives Kansas schools a clearer ladder than they had a year ago, and Olathe West is planting its flag at the base of it. Bell’s hire is not just a staffing note.
