Oregon adds JUCO All-American to five-star recruiting class

Oregon’s men’s basketball program has added a signing group that blends five-star high school talent with a junior-college All-American, giving Dana Altman another roster built for both immediate minutes and future upside.

On3’s 2025 Oregon Ducks basketball commits page lists JJ Frakes, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Berrien Springs, Michigan, as a five-star prospect and shows Oregon with three commits in the class. That gives the Ducks the kind of high-end prep talent that has long defined the program’s recruiting profile, while the JUCO addition supplies a different kind of value entirely.

The junior-college piece matters because the All-America label is not just a branding exercise. The NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee makes those selections, and that honor usually belongs to players who have already produced against college competition. In Oregon’s case, that means a recruit who should arrive with a shorter adjustment period than a typical freshman, whether the need is scoring, rebounding, defense or simply the poise to handle a major-conference rotation.

That balance fits the way Oregon has recruited under Altman, who has never limited himself to one pipeline. The Ducks have consistently mixed elite prep names, transfers and junior-college additions, and their all-time recruits list on 247Sports includes Bol Bol, Kel’el Ware, N’Faly Dante, Kwame Evans Jr., Troy Brown and Louis King. The pattern is clear: Oregon wants stars, but it also wants players who can step onto the floor and help quickly.

The Ducks kept building after that signing group as well. University of Oregon Athletics later announced additions including Taylor Bol Bowen and Jerry Easter II in May 2026, another sign that the roster has continued to be shaped through multiple recruiting windows. That kind of layered approach has become standard in the Big Ten, where programs cannot afford to wait years for every newcomer to develop.

For Oregon, the JUCO All-American is the bridge between those timelines. The five-star freshman brings ceiling, but the junior-college veteran brings college-ready production and maturity, the traits that can stabilize a lineup while the younger prospects catch up. In a recruiting class designed to matter now and later, that is the piece that often changes the tempo fastest.
